Ophelia Earrings

A meditation on the shapes already around us.
Part of our Modern Alchemy collection, Ophelia begins with a simple recognition: every shape we work in metal already exists somewhere in the world before we touch it, the curve of a petal, the arc of a doorway, the line a river cuts through stone. At the bench, that recognition becomes the work itself. Our metalsmiths, trained in hand-forging and fabrication, take a raw sheet of gold-filled metal and hammer it, degree by degree, until it finds the same shape already written into the gemstone it will hold. Nothing is set or forced into place; the window and the stone were always the same shape, we simply gave the metal time to remember it. This is the quiet math behind everything we make: nature's language and architecture's language turn out to be the same language, and our job is only to listen closely enough to translate it.
